Church Building History

Our Historic Church Building

Construction of our original sanctuary was completed in 1896, and the congregation named it Weatherford Presbyterian Church, U.S. Though the name changed several times over the decades, the church remained faithfully Presbyterian.

In 1945, lightning struck the tall cupola (pictured above) for the second time. The damaged tower was lowered and replaced with the present-day cupola. A few years later, in 1949, the current Education Building was completed directly behind the original sanctuary.

By the 1970s, the property sat vacant for many years—weathered, deteriorating, and eventually overtaken by raccoons and small animals. Yet by God’s immense grace and providence, the Lord preserved this historic structure for a future work. Today, its name is once again Weatherford Presbyterian Church, PCA, restored not only in body but in purpose.

Through the sacrificial generosity of the founding congregation—who restored the building out of their own pockets and faithfulness to God—the church has been lovingly renewed. November 15, 2015, we held our first worship service in the beautifully restored sanctuary.

Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow!
